5 Minute Mystery in the Classroom

Short mysteries that teach close reading, inference, and evidence. Now with the tools teachers have been asking for.

Student accounts without email. Type a list of names and we create a username for each student. You set the password and print sign-in cards. No email address, no sign-up form, no spam.
An approved list. Students on accounts you create can only open the mysteries you approve: pick them one by one, or by category or difficulty.
Homework. Assign a mystery with a due date and a note, and see who has started, solved, or aced it.
Results per student and per class. Attempts, solve rate, points, time taken, and the same charts a student sees on their own profile. Export the class table as a spreadsheet.
Join codes. Students who already have a 5 Minute Mystery account can join your classroom with a six-character code and keep their own account.

Your 7-day trial starts the first time a student opens a mystery. Everything is unlocked.
When the trial ends, buy seats for your students. Seats last 12 months and never auto-renew.

Is the rest of the site still free?: Yes. Everyone else plays for free, with no ads, as always. Seats pay for the classroom tools and the accounts you create.
What happens when my seats run out?: Nothing breaks. Your students keep playing and you keep every page and every result. You just cannot add students, approve mysteries, or assign homework until you buy seats again.
What do you collect about my students?: Only the name you type and the username we make from it, plus their play results. No email address, no contact details, no marketing. You control their accounts: removing a student from your classroom deletes the account. See our privacy policy.
Do students appear in Top Sleuths?: Accounts you create are kept off the public rankings and get their own standings inside the classroom.
Can I use my own account as a student?: Your account is the teacher's. Students who already have their own account join with your classroom's code and are not limited to the approved list.
